Visit Mickleton

Mickleton, the most northerly village in Gloucestershire, and within a brisk walk of Warwickshire and Worcestershire. It has been called ‘the Gateway to the Cotswolds’.

Thatched Cottages in High Street – a history

The oldest part of the village lies within the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The rest lies on the edge of the Vale of Evesham, a rich agricultural area, and home to many small agriculture related businesses.

Until the 1960’s, the village had hardly changed for at least 400 years.  Since the 1960’s, estates have been built extending the village shape into that of a dumbbell. By 2016, the population will number around 1800, with about 1000 dwellings. That tells you that many of the homes here are owned by villagers who have retired to this place. There is a core of families who were born and bred here, and who have roots going back many generations, but most villagers are ‘incomers’, from all over the UK.

It’s a great place to live and stay. We have high quality facilities for tourists, and attractive buildings and countryside. It is a ‘live’ village, where residents can, if they choose, purchase all their weekly needs in the local shops.

Three Ways House Hotel

However, it never feels as if there are too many tourists, yet 23,000 visit the Three Ways Hotel each year.

There are plenty of places of cultural and historical interest within a very short distance.

  • I used to go to St Hilliards School in Mickleton, a very nice area of the North Cotswolds, where I played football and cricket for the school against various schools in the area from Tewkesbury to Moreton in Marsh. Mickleton, Chipping Campden, Meon Hill was a good area.
