Brother and Sister Give 100 Pints of Blood
These photographs are of Mrs Beatrice Margaret Kitchen and her brother Walter [Wally] Frederick Harry Brain of Pound Lane. They appear in an undated newspaper cutting reporting that between them they had given almost 100 pints of blood to hospitals. Mr Brain had just been presented with a badge and certificate by Lady Pollen on behalf of the National Blood Transfusion Service in recognition of his having given his 50th pint. The presentation took place in King George’s Hall. He had donated blood for more than 30 years with just a short break during war service in Africa and Italy.
Mrs Kitchen, then living on Granbrook Road [now Lane], was due to donate her 50th pint at the next session held in the village.
