Chestnut Cottage
Copyright Mickleton Community Archive
Chestnut Cottage is on the High Street, between the shop and the Manor. A note in the index compiled to accompany the original slide collection reads, ‘The ___ good accommodation for cyclists’. Is this what the sign says?

The “original slide” is a photo of a Post Card which refers to Chestnut cottage as “Rose Cottage”. This is possibly a name arrived at by a photographer with little local knowledge basing the name on the roses growing up the wall.
The sign actually reads “Teas provided good accommodation for cyclists”
The postage on the Post Card states that it needed a halfpenny stamp to send it. This type of Post Card was in use around 1900 – 1912, or so.
