  • I so remember sunny afternoons sewing in Mrs Swift’s beautiful garden. We used to have a beaker of orange squash on particularly hot days. My name is Irene Reay, nee Sherwin. So many happy memories of the Village School….Mr Niblett, the headmaster and Miss Fox who taught the newbies. I remember being frightened of her grey dress and head covering, but she was really gentle and caring.
Does anyone remember singing lessons to the radio?
I was always amazed that the teacher knew when we went wrong!

  • I remember Mrs. Swift. I believe she lived with her father in a lovely cottage in the village. She was quite stern but fair. Taking our needlework to do in her garden was wonderful. My parents ran the village shop and post office for many years. My name is Yvonne King, nee Sherwin.

  • I remember needlework lessons on sunny afternoons in Mrs Swift’s garden. I still have some of the things we made in the lessons such as peg bags and tray cloths! In my memory it was a magical time. I also remember the decorations we used to make in the run up to Christmas each year.

  • I must have been a year or so behind you and also have happy memories of schooldays. I wonder if your sister remembers needlework lessons sitting under the apple tree in Mrs Swift’s garden on Mill Lane? Lovely to read your post!
