My parents Charlie & Daphne Dinwoodie moved into the newly built Council house in 1955 when I was a baby. They were delighted to be allocated the house as they had been living with my Grandparents at Canada Lane before this.
There were a lot of families with young children living on Cedar Road at the time so there were always friends to play with and lots of birthday parties. It was a lovely place to live.

I remember the cows but I can’t seem to recall the field catching fire. Our play area, “the green” seems to be a bit of a car park now. The cutting is still there though. I remember walking through there, over Grandbrook Lane, across Grandbrook Orchard and between the greenhouses to my Grandparents house on Canada Lane. I remember doing this walk on my own from quite a young age.
The house I grew up in is just behind you Claire, number 27. We were the end house on that side of the road. I wonder if anyone remembers the cows that were kept in the field and the night the grass caught fire?
I agree with you in that it was a great place to grow up and such a shame that the green we used to play on has now gone!
