VE Day Celebrations 8th May 2020

Village Celebrations for VE Day 2020 despite Covid restrictions

Despite the Covid restrictions in place which limited group numbers and enforced social distancing Mickleton residents turned out in force for VE Day Celebrations. This was the 75th anniversary. Posters were placed round the village and on social media encouraging the village residents to take part- even though we had to stay at home.

Throughout the village residents dressed their houses in red, white and blue with flags, balloons and the like. Some brought out their classic cars and motorbikes to line the streets. Lunches and teas were organised for small local groups. Decades delivered delicious afternoon teas which we enjoyed in our front garden.

At 11am there was 2 minutes silence recognising those who had lost their lives in wartimes. Along with the rest of the nation we raised a glass for the national toast at 3pm. At 6pm we ‘raised the roof’ banging drums and saucepans and clapping for heroes past and present.

It was a rare opportunity to celebrate in these difficult Covid years.
