Marie Corelli's autograph
Copyright Mickleton Community Archive
This was given to Mrs Hammond on 5th April 1921 when she went to the aid of the occupants of a car that had collided with a baker’s cart opposite the Old Post Office, mounted the grass verge and almost overturned. She took the two passengers in to her home and gave them tea while their chauffeur righted the car. The passengers were the novelist Marie Correlli and her companion who had been driven out from their home, Mason Croft, in Stratford upon Avon. Mrs Hammond treasured the autograph they left with her.
